Megabonk Mods: How to Install & Most Downloaded Mods

Megabonk mods are hosted on Thunderstore (about 150 packages as of Oct 22, 2026). The easy way is a mod manager — r2modman or Gale — which installs the BepInExPack IL2CPP loader for you. Steam lists no Workshop for Megabonk, so all mods are fan-made and run at your own risk.
How to install Megabonk mods
- Back up your save. Some mods unlock or spawn content and change your progress permanently.
- Install r2modman or Gale (both on Thunderstore) and select Megabonk.
- Create a profile (keep one clean profile for unmodded play).
- Search the mod and click install. Dependencies such as BepInExPack IL2CPP are added automatically.
- Start the game from the manager ("Start modded"). Launching from Steam starts the unmodded game unless you set the manager up otherwise.
Manual install: extract BepInEx 6 (IL2CPP build) into the Megabonk folder, run the game once, then put each mod's .dll into BepInEx/plugins. A few older mods use MelonLoader instead; do not mix a MelonLoader build and a BepInEx build of the same mod.

- Arachnophobia — turns the Desert scorpions into slimes.
- CleanText — removes swearing and crude jokes from the English text.
- AlwaysShowBossArrow — keeps the boss-gate arrow visible.

Mod safety checklist
- Download from Thunderstore or the mod's linked GitHub, not reuploads.
- After a game patch, mods can break; wait for an update and check the mod's version date.
- Co-op mods: every player needs the same mod and game version; most say not to combine them with other gameplay mods.
- Unlock and spawner mods affect your real save. Use a separate profile and keep a backup.
